Muhyiddin Calls On Malaysians To Together Defend Country's Sovereignty
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri
Muhyiddin Yassin said every member of society is responsible to defend
the country's sovereignty against any form of threat.
He said the commitment, diligence and hardwork by all quarters had made Malaysia well-known internationally, especially for its ability to maintain peace and harmony among the multi-racial society, as recognised by the international community.
The true meaning of being sovereign, he said, was when the people of an independent nation were able to determine their own future and that of their country without having to bow to pressures from any quarters.
"Come, let us move to together to uphold the country's independence so that the sovereignty of Malaysia is always respected and the country looked highly in the world.
"I believe Malaysia is on the right track due to the cooperation and tolerance of the people of various races and religions in the country," he said in his message in conjunction with the country's 56th Merdeka Day (Independence Day) which will be celebrated Saturday.
This year's Merdeka Day celebration, with the theme "My Sovereign Malaysia, My Native Land", begins with the Merdeka countdown tonight at the Maritime Centre in Putrajaya, followed by the Merdeka parade to be held at Dataran Merdeka here Saturday.
Muhyiddin also called on the people to together understand and appreciate the true meaning of independence and to instil love for the country.
He said the important thing which they should always remember was that it was not easy for their forefathers to fight for the country's independence.
"I wish the people a happy 56th Merdeka Day and pray that our country and its people to continue to live in peace and harmony and be successful," he added.
